![]() ![]() The Christian Brothers opened their school in Dun Laoghaire on the first day of January,1857. The school, located on Eblana Avenue, educated the boys of the community for almost 100 years. By the late 1940’s the student body had grown to the point that this site could no longer accommodate it. In 1949 the Brothers purchased the nearby estate of Monkstown Park to provide a commodious new home for the thriving school. The private Christian Brothers College Junior School was opened at Monkstown Park in 1950. In the early days the school taught boys from 2nd to 6th class in two streams. This was later changed to a single stream of children from Junior Infants to 6th Class, creating a relatively small school with a unique atmosphere where every boy is well known to the principal and staff. For most of its history, the school’s patron was the Congregation of Christian Brothers. In September 2008, the Brothers transferred their trusteeship to the newly created Edmund Rice Schools Trust. The Trust is administered by Members and Directors from a variety of professional backgrounds, with a wide range of experience and a strong commitment to Catholic education in the Edmund Rice tradition. Our school motto is “Certa Bonum Certamen” or “fight the good fight” and the
school colours are red, black and yellow. From 3rd class upwards, the boys learn
to play rugby, which is the main competitive sport. Recent illustrious graduates
include Daniel Ryan of the band The Thrills, Andrew Keogh, Irish International
soccer player and Peter McKenna, Irish international rugby player.
